My stay at Royal Decameron Indigo Beach Resort
Carnival break was coming and there was no way I was going to keep my six year old at home all week. She would drive me crazy. I decided Royal Decameron Indigo Beach would be our home for three days because she loves the beach. The booking process was effortless. I called the local number and was able to go by there main office here in Petion- Ville.
We woke up early Wednesday, we packed and hit the road. It was going to be an 1.5 hour drive for us but there was no rush.We arrived around 2:30pm which was fine because there was a line and I knew by the time I got to the front it would be 3pm. At 3:15 I finally got assistance, I was already growing impatient because I had overheard other clients saying they had been here since 11 am and they still had not gotten a key to their room. In my head I was already prepared to battle because I was not going to wait 3 hours for a room. Oh no!! The young lady assured me that I would not wait. I am not sure if she was appeasing me or saw my face and knew I was not here to play games. I simply wanted my room key so I can go about my business. By 3:30 I was fully checked in, the gods were on my side.
Unfortunately, most people were still waiting and the line was now wrapped around twice. I got a bellman to assist me to my room. Everything was too easy….. Upon entering the room, I immediately started my usual room inspection. I pulled back the sheets on both beds. They were clean; the AC worked; the TV worked; Man! I was elated. At this point nothing could burst my bubble. I was on cloud 9 until I entered the bathroom, I definitely had a nicer bathroom on my last stay here. The towels werent fluffy, they looked worn and were asking to be thrown away or used as rags. I packed clean towels from home so, I used the towels provided as bath mats since none were provided. I didnt bother calling the front desk because with that small army of angry people up front waiting to be assited, I’m sure they had their hands full.
My daughter was already in the pool with her friends. We enjoyed the beach, the pool, the hot sand, even patronized the vendors. The kids tried building castles but definately werent successful. That didnt matter because they were truly in their world having the time of their lives. Now it was time for dinner. I made my way to every station, searching for THE dish….. That one dish from the buffet you can eat all night and be completely satisfied. I was definitely disappointed. No way was I in Haiti and the food could be so plain, flavorless, there was no aroma tantalizing my nose…. I kept tasting hoping to find something, find that ONE DISH that representated where I was. Everything tasted the exact same, where was the fresh garlic, the parsley, the zesty lime flavor, and HEAT from scotch bonnets???
We were near the ocean on a resort in Haiti but nothing made me feel like home. Everything was imported, nothing was from our local farmers. I felt beat. I spent three days eating all this tasteless processed food. Decameron had failed me tremendously. The dessert bar didnt have anything local. We have so many great desserts but none were present. Pain patate, blanc manger, or even benyen, it was carnival season afterall. I will say this, if you are looking for great food, this is not the place to be. If you are not a foodie then you will love the food here. If you eat just to eat then you will be in Heaven! I was satisfied with my room, I didn’t die of hunger, I didn’t get bitten by mosquitoes and my daughter had the time of her life. Will I be back? Probably… Not because I want great food but because I know my daughter will enjoy the pool, and the clean beaches… Until next time Decameron
